Morning Fruit Shake

I swore to live a more healthy lifestyle when 2013 came and I realized that I can't instantly change it. However, I'm trying so hard especially when it comes to food. I used to go gaga over fast food and junk foods but realized that I'm getting older already. I can pinch fats from my back, my arms and I'm no longer confident with my thighs. My metabolism isn't as fast as before. If I must say, I don't have any physical activities, too. LITERALLY. I've been like this for two months (NOT proud). I blame myself for being unemployed.

Enough about my rants. Here's what I've been doing to cope up with bum lifestyle. I choose a more healthy meal than combining immobility and junk/processed foods.  If I do that, I'll be a pig in no time. I substitute 1 or 2 of my meals with fresh fruit homemade shake. For today's breakfast, we concocted a fruit shake composed of watermelon, carrots, melon, grapes, mangoes and apple. No sugar, just fruits, a veggie and ice cubes.

They say that watermelons are the richest source of lycopene (the color clearly shows that it's rich with red carotene). They're good for the skin and for our blood vessels. They are natural anti-oxidants that can help prevent sunburn and wrinkling.

If there's one thing you can never force me to eat, it's carrots. I'd rather eat ampalaya than carrots because I don't like it's taste. For me, their not taste-bud-friendly. However, since we're mixing a lot of fruits together mama decided to put raw carrots. She said I won't be able to taste it.

Carrots, as we all know, are good for the eyes. But did you also know that carrot juice is called the golden juice of healing? Research shows that it's also good for cleansing and restoring the liver. Yes, another natural detoxifier.

Aside from it's good for the skin, papaya is  rich in Vitamin A and it can also help boost our immune and digestive system. Eat papaya regularly, it helps prevent colon cancer.

One good thing about grapes is that it can help power up weight loss. It is capable of reducing the ability of cells to lose fat. All in all. it's good  for fighting diabetes, muscle recovery and reduction of heart-attack risk. Since it's not that affordable, we could always find other substitutes.

We also included apple in one of the ingredients. However, be careful of non-organic apples because those kinds of apples are considered as one of the worst food for the body because there aren't very resistant to pest.

On the contrary, if you buy organic apples the 'apple a day' adage would make sense. Generally, it's good for the heart, helps in weight loss and boosts endurance.

Last but not the least, mangoes. Mangoes are known to be the King of Fruits because it's rich in nutrients. It's rich in vitamins A, C, E and different kinds of carotenoids. It improves digestion, helps in diabetes, boosts immune system, lowers cholesterol and helps unclog pores.

Here's the end product. It makes 2-3 servings. A glass full of nutrients, fresh and home-made. Try it because it's not only refreshing, it's also very very nutritious. Making a fruit shake makes it easier to consume different kinds of food at once. A world renowned preacher shared that we need 15 variants of fruits daily to get all the nutrients we need. I'm following this because I want to live long :)

We're using an 8 speed Osterizer blender. It's very effective in making juices, smoothies, purees and basically shakes just like what we did here.

App Review + Happy Birthday Hay Day

I don't know what has gotten into me. I've never really been a fan of playing farming simulation games (i.e. Farmville) but this is an exception. I've been playing it for
quite some time now and I used to have two accounts when I thought
I lost the first one. From my last semester in college up to my bum
days at present, this was what kept me from boredom.

Last June 13 they launched a new update where players can now go fishing to
collect different species of fish and fish meat. It gave the the players more
chances of earning diamonds for them to use on decorations, buy
missing ingredients or even to immediately finish the
production of a certain product. The downside,
you have to spend tickets!

Last night, I got a new update and this was what welcomed me when I opened it today.
It's Hay Day's 1st birthday and the Hay Day Team gave away 10 diamonds to
all of their players. In addition, look at all those livestock-turned-party-animals.
Aren't they adorable? All of a sudden they're wearing sunnies, hats,
 scarves and other trinkets.

Below is my humble farm. So far, so good. Level 47 and with enough gold and
diamonds. I never really got the chance to play other farm sims but I
think this is the most appealing.

PROS: Touch and Swipe (Harvest, Collect and Sow)
Interactive, full of surprises, amazing graphics and FREE

CONS:  It can be quite repetitive over time.

My BU5 Experience

Just thought of writing this now since I've spent the past few days processing my employment (yes! I'm finally working again). I've crossed out another thing from my '2013 Must Do' list and that is to attend Bloggers United.

Bloggers United is an initiative of bloggers:

Melai Entuna http://styleandsoul.net/ (Style and Soul)
Ana Gonzales - http://anagonzales.com/ (The Fashionista Commuter)
Aisa Ipac - http://aisaipac.com/ (Drowning Equilibriums)

They basically want to gather the bloggers from different categories all over the country and build a community recognizing the massive influence of social media as of today. It's also a good activity where readers and bloggers can interact with one another. In the form of a blogger's bazaar, the Metro's most influential bloggers sell their personal stuff. Now, that's another way to connect with our favorite bloggers :)

So anyways, I got the opportunity to finally attend the Bloggers United 5 with my boyfriend last June 1, 2013 at the SMX Convention.

Ms. Danika Rio of http://www.hello-rio.com/ (Hello Rio) and Ms. Lissa Kahayon of http://www.lissakahayon.com/ (Scene Stealer) are one of the most approachable bloggers  present in the event.

Blogger and Bb. Pilipinas World 2007 Maggie Wilson of http://www.haute-affair.com/ (Haute Affair) and sister bloggers Vern and Verniece Enciso of http://www.vernverniece.com/ ( A Blog by Vern and Verniece Enciso: V V) were also spotted.

A few more snapshots. On the right is me and Dani Barreto of http://dani-barretto.blogspot.com/ (Style is Eternal). My boyfriend thinks she's a lovely and goofy lady.

We went there a little too late and there were only a few stuff being sold :( It was still a  worthwhile experience and I'm looking forward to more BUs in the future.

To my BU5 date, thank you for being supportive and patient with all the walking and fan-girl posing I did there. You're the best. :*

Guilt-Free Change

Cliché as it may sound, a woman's hair is considered to be her crowning glory. I used to wonder why women who are in despair head to the salon and ask for a make over - dye hair, perm, rebond. style or cut. I'd personally interpret it as a means to regain the glory - be confident again, feel better/sexy/beautiful and so on and so forth.

I truly believe that our hair is an extension of our identity. The way we style it. How we want it to be cut. The way we groom it, fix it, accessorize it. It's a part of who we are and caring for it is essential(Yes, even though my Biology professor told me that there can never be a healthy hair because our hair are DEAD CELLS). It reflects our personality, or so do I believe?

Talking about my personal transformation, HAIR DYE. In high school, it's obviously a no-no. In fact, I never wanted to dye my hair because I thought only punks appreciate that. Moreover, I just wanted to rebond my hair because mine was annoyingly waaaaaaaaavy. Back in college, I had the freedom and I started to grew fond of it because I have a lot of red-headed colleagues. They looked great, fashionable and in style.  I'm sorry but I sort of found the 'girlishness' in me.

Two things stopped me far too long for me to dye my hair. First, my supposed PAL employment. It's now over so I'm so free to do it (hair color). The second reason, however,  is about how would it look on me. I carried my natural black hair for twenty years. Though I've seen how it looked good on other women, I was hesitant because it might not suit me. I fear that it can make me look cheap or slutty.

Took the bold step several weeks ago not because I got depressed with my PAL application but because it's something I've been meaning to try for such a long time. Since it would not interfere with anything anymore, I finally had my hair dyed for the first time.  It felt great. I had it done at Ronel Egang's Salon and I obviously didn't took a wrong move this time. Red, Green, Purple. . . There are lots of colors I wanted to try but dared not.

They said that with the absence of fear, change becomes successful. That made me go for it. Mama also agreed. I think my mom thought it would make me feel better after what happened with my PAL application. Honestly, it's not about that. This is just something I wanted to try.

THE END RESULT. Tah-dah! Been enjoying my blonde hair for quite some time now. Also,  my point of view regarding hair coloring changed. I must embrace who I am but it doesn't mean that I can do away without any change. Sometimes, changing is also about growing. Yes, the hair adds up to ones image but it can never be a basis to define us. I don't feel cheap nor slutty.  It's our actions and our character that would make us who we are.

Embrace yourselves and be fab lovies! :)

PAL Flight Cancelled

After expressing my thoughts on my first job, let me now express my disappointment with PAL. I may not do this, but I want to. Almost everybody knows that being a part of this airline is a big career advancement and prestige especially for their pilots and FAs. With that being said, it is just appropriate that PAL strictly and thoroughly screen their applicants. I have nothing against that but I just hope that their application process and schedule of activities is systematic so as not to waste the time and efforts of the applicants.

Initial Screening

When it comes to applying for a job, "we'll call you" most of the time, means that you're not hired, you better not hope anymore and start looking for another job. I sort of did this except for the hoping part since they stated that they'd call you if you pass the initial screening or you'd get an email if you don't. I got neither of the two.

Last March 1 and 2, Philippine Airlines opened an FA screening at Royal Mandaya Hotel (Davao City). I attended the second day and went through an interview, height measurement, filling up information forms, recording a video and having my picture taken. It sounds fast and easy but it's not. You have to wait for several hours because of the number of hopefuls.

Fortunately, we got in and we were briefed right after initial screening. The one who did the talking told us about the next step and that we'll be contacted after 2 weeks. Later on, I found out that some of my classmates passed the initial screening in the first day, too. However, in their briefing the staff of PAL told them that they'll call after a month. So what is it really? 2 weeks passed, 1 month passed and even our graduation day passed. I already went back to Manila, got a job and so are my classmates in Davao who waited for PAL to call.

2 months passed. I'm also on the verge of my two weeks employment at an advertising firm when they called. May 7, 2013. I can clearly  remember  that it was after a meeting with one of our clients and my smile almost reached my ears as the person told me that she's from PAL and that she'd schedule me an interview with PAL president, Mr. Ramon S. Ang, himself. Thinking that I'm still in Davao, she offered a plane ticket but then I told her that I'm already in Manila. Staying for good.

FA Interview for RSA

May 16, 2013. We were asked to be at the PAL office at Mandaluyong by 8:00 am. I got there a minute or two before 8 am. There were already a lot of applicants that were screened from different parts of the country. I was also happy to see two of my schoolmates from Davao who got there. While waiting, a staff told me that we were not going to be interviewed. And yes we weren't. We were only viewed by PAL president for visual impact. Parang pageant lang noh? Mr. Ang was that busy because after an hour or two pa kami na-entertain. It lasted for a few minutes only. Some were not fortunate but a lot passed his standards.

After those bloody but fruitful hours of waiting, we were asked to take lunch and were given  the address where we are going to take our exam by 1:00 pm. Same day.

Examination

We took the examination at PNB, Macapagal. It lasted for almost three hours. They gave us a number to call and inquire if we passed the exam. Aside from that, we're individually checked up as well, physically. They looked at our hands, fingers, elbows, shoulders, face and even our teeth. I like their staff there because they're approachable and very organized.

Interlude: It just so happens that I also got something to do at TRINOMA by 10:00 pm. We had to ingress some stuff for our booth because we will be having a mall activation the next day. We finished the booth the next day and I got home from Quezon to Cavite by 3:00 am. It literally cost me my job.

I'm in such a good place, work wise. If it weren't for my dream job, I wouldn't quit my former job. But I did and I have to because PAL kept on scheduling appointments without considering the availability of the applicants. It was them who failed to call within their schedule, not all people can wait for them. Some people tried hard to be a part of them. And I'm one of those who have a pinch of regret.

Medical Check Up

May 20, 2013. The step I disliked the most because of their inefficient, unapproachable, inconsiderate and inconsistent staff. I no longer want to dwell on the details of how hard it is to talk to them and how they give instructions inconsistently. The bottom line is I get to be regularized if I signed  the undertaking stating that I'll carry all the expenses for the removal of my 3 impacted teeth. I signed last June 7 because they said I can still join the training on June 24. May 21-June 7, it took them that long to tell me that there is something that might disqualify my application when in fact I regularly call them for an update because that was their instruction. I'd usually get a "call again tomorrow" statement.

Last June 14, the others who passed already attended the orientation. My classmates in Davao who got in the initial screening never got an email. Thank you PAL for not having a word of honor. It would  be easily acceptable if you just said to my face that I can no longer proceed because of my impacted teeth when, in fact, you already asked me to personally go to your medical clinic just to sign a paper.

May you continue to shine through being the country's flag carrier, first in Asia.

Thoughts on My First Job

After the Summer Solstice, here's a more serious post. 37 days after graduation, I'm finally EMPLOYED.What I thought that I liked about the job:  The Setup. I reside in Cavite and I got a job from the North. It's almost a 2-hour travel depending on traffic however I don't feel exhausted because work from the office is only thrice a week. We get to work from home every Tuesdays and Thursdays. Moreover, I don't need to get up that early because the office opens at 10 am. Lucky us! :)

I lasted for 2 weeks. It's not that I don't want my job, it's just that I have to quit. We decided to quit. As a matter of fact, I loved my job and I'd often tell my friends how much I enjoy it. Besides, it really suits my degree and I'm comfortable and at ease with my employer even when I was still being interviewed for the position.

For those who are clueless,  I was hired as an Assistant Project Manager at an advertising firm somewhere in Ortigas. I looked up to the heavy projects done by such a small and amateur ad firm. I once dreamed to grow with it and be with them as I advance my career.

First Day

I wore a very simple aztec blouse and jeggings. I love how free we are to dress up in the office. No uniforms but decent clothes would do. It's hard move around and catch a bus on the way to work with a skirt or with high heels on. I've witnessed how it can be a disadvantage to other women.

We have this small but spacious office at Burgundy Tower fronting Robinson's Galleria. It's just enough for us since there's only a few employees and we only use it thrice a week. On my very first day, I was asked to co-brainstorm in a meeting for a certain project for a soda company. I was asked to make a PPT presentation and I remember being mentored by my boss on how to write a brief business letter. He said that my writing style fits blogging and that it should be adjusted. Well, that's acceptable.

So back to my first day at work, what I  also liked about it is that we don't get to be stucked in the office. We get to go out and travel a lot especially during meeting with the clients. Got this picture from my very first client meeting; with the big boss of a huge juice company. Well aside from getting connection, I'd love that I also get the chance to build relationships. As I met my immediate supervisor, Ma'am Nikki, who will train me  to be better in the this job, I find her really helpful. . .  and concerned.

At Work

Upper left: That was a part of our small office I was  talking about. In their, we usually work in front of our work units. Emails, presentations, research, etc. . . Lower left: Since everybody got a laptop to work on, my boss bought additional units and I got this one to work with. Upper left: We must be reachable at all times both online and thru mobile phones. I used to get a lot of calling errands because I need to update on a lot of steps in bringing up an event from the teenie tiny details to the major ones. I contact suppliers, ask for quotations, set an order and etc. Lower right: Checking event locations and ocular visits are fun too. I get to familiarize different areas in the North. Yay! :)

A fair share of my time. When I'm sent to do an errand alone, here's what usually happens. I do this at the cab, at the mall or wherever I caught myself bored or waiting for another errand. Best job eveeeeer. It really is an advantage if you love what you're doing. You should be happy so that you'll only encounter physical stress and not mental or emotional exhaustion.

Let's wrap up this post: what I do really like about the work is that I'm able to learn a lot of stuff, meet different kinds of people and be my self. Those two weeks were a priceless experience. If only the company gives a much better form of security and assurance to the employers, we could have stayed.

For all who have read this and currently hunts a job, good luck! :*

Close Up Summer Solstice

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

I have mentioned in my previous post my party-ful weekend. It was because I was given a heads up by my friend that we'll be attending the first ever dance music festival here in the country - - - Close Up Summer Solstice! :) And so, I thank Kuya Wacky for my VIP ticket and for the awesome experience.

The 12-hour non-stop party hit the full house and not only that, it was star studded as well. Imagine the MOA Parking Grounds filled with energetic crowd jamming with one of the brightest stars and personalities. Hell yeah. It was really hot but the party was way hotter!

It was my first official and legal party here in Manila so kudos to me and the organizers of Close Up Summer Solstice! I think that their purpose of bringing together the youth through utilizing music was accomplished.

Love these MassCom people of Ateneo De Davao University. It looked like it became our get together/reunion/Alumni night and it was a night well spent. Marked: April 27, 2013. Until the next Close Up event.

A simple OOTD to end this post. Literally wore a bikini top to the event and I've never regret doing it. Light and cool fabrics won't let you down. Summer's not over; it's just about to start. xoxo, Pau.
